Seeking a magnetic, child-focused, organizer, and community builder to fill a unique position bridging the ministry to children and families of the La Vernia United Methodist Preschool and the La Vernia United Methodist Church. In this position the successful applicant will report to both the Preschool Director and the Pastor within their specified areas detailed below.
Children and Family Ministries:
Development of children’s Sunday school (infant - 5th grade) – Recruiting and training teachers, curriculum selection, resourcing the teachers, and occasionally filling-in for absent teachers.
Development of adult Sunday school for parents of children and those at similar age/stage of life - Recruiting and training teachers, aid with curriculum selection, resourcing the teachers, and occasionally leading a series relevant to parenting/faith formation of younger children.
Lead children’s time during Sunday worship, shared with the pastor.
Develop quarterly/monthly fun events for families with children in the areas of service, faith formation, and fellowship.
Actively connect guests and new members to the church’s ministries.
Preschool Community Life:
Lead weekly Preschool chapel with the assistance of volunteers, teachers, and the pastor.
Connect with preschool parents and potential enrollees, building relationships with children and parents for the purpose of inviting persons to children and adult Sunday school and improving Preschool community life.
Take a leadership role in planning and executing monthly/seasonal events for community outreach with the Preschool and Church community (Fall Festival, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Epiphany, Easter, movie nights, family fun nights and etc.)
Provide parenting/faith formation tips through the monthly Preschool email communications.
General Expectations:
Active presence on behalf of the Preschool and Church on social media and proficiency in MS Office suite. Successful completion of and keeping current with the church’s youth safety education, background check, and the background check required of Preschool employees. The exceptional applicant will have knowledge of United Methodist theology and training in faith formation for children.
This position is full-time, salaried, exempt. The expectation is that each area (Church and Preschool) receives 20 hours of the 40-hour workweek. This division is flexible at times depending on fulfilling ministry priorities. The salary is $38,000-42,000, depending on experience.
