New to Christ

If you have recently accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior you have begun a new adventure in Christian Living. It is very important that you find a church home where you can “grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.” Some have used the analogy of hot coals to describe their new found relationship with Christ. If you take a hot coal and set it off by itself the coal grows cold quicker than if it stayed together with other hot coals. The fellowship of the Body of Christ is like that. There are some very basic steps to nurture your faith and relationship in Christ. At La Vernia United Methodist Church we would love to help nurture you in that faith development.

Some of the necessities for faith development are:

Worship – While some can worship alone, worship of God is best done with others. We have two worship services each Sunday morning;

8:30 AM is Traditional worship with piano and songs from the United Methodist Hymnal along with prayers and the Apostle’s Creed;

At 11:00 AM we have a praise service with a band and song leaders with contemporary praise songs projected on the wall so hands are free to clap and lifted in praise.

Wednesday’s at 6:30 PM we have a Youth Praise Service in the Family Life Building for CrossFire Kids, grades 3 – 5 and CrossFire Student Ministry, grades 6 – 12. The band and singers are all from the youth.

Holy Communion is served on the first Sunday of each month at both services. Holy Communion in The United Methodist Church is open to anyone who wants to partake. Holy Communion is served in the Chapel every other Sunday after each worship service.

Study of God’s Word is offered every Sunday during Sunday School from 9:45 – 10:45 AM. There are classes for children youth and adults. There are eight adult classes with a variety of topics and styles of study. Various Bible Study groups are offered during the day and evenings.

Christian Fellowship is also important among us. Before and after each service, before Sunday school and occasional Pot luck dinners as well as each of the Sunday School and various small groups afford plenty of opportunity for Christian fellowship. We have a United Methodist Men and Women’s group as well as a very active Emmaus Community.

Service and Witness are marks of the mature Christian. We participate in the local Food Pantry, Ministry among the Homeless in San Antonio, Missions in Mexico, Kairos Prison Ministry and Epiphany Ministry among Juvenile Detention Center. Anytime we do service ministry we witness to the love of Jesus Christ as our motiviation and invite people to accept Christ.

Each United Methodist Church is part of a World-wide connection of ministries. Come grow with us in your faith in Jesus Christ.
