Weddings

Congratulations on this new and exciting time in your life!

Before an arrangement is made with La Vernia United Methodist Church, the bride or groom must get in touch with either the Pastor or the Associate Pastor. This can be arranged through Kathy Balcar, Administrative Assistant. One of the Pastors must agree to perform the ceremony and a date must be agreed upon.

In addition, both pastors require an initial meeting and some counseling (each pastor differs on the number of sessions.)

It is the policy of La Vernia UMC to allow ordained pastors of other United Methodist Churches and other denominations to perform the ceremony in our church. This must be approved by one of our pastors and your pastor must contact the La Vernia UMC pastor for an initial introduction.

All weddings require a coordinator present at the rehearsal and wedding.

WEDDING FEES

FEES FOR SERVICES OF THE CLERGY: Pastors do not “charge” for officiating at a wedding ceremony. It has long been the custom of the groom to gift the pastor for their services. We do recommend that the gift be appropriate for pastoral services performed and a suggested compensation is at least $100.00

THE USAGE FEES ARE TO COVER UTILITIES AND ADMINISTRATIVE EXPENSES. (Members are not charged for use of the sanctuary, however, the charge is for administration and coordination. The charges are as follows:

A $100.00 deposit is required with the wedding application. The date will not be held without a deposit. All remaining fees are payable at the wedding rehearsal. Make out individual checks to the appropriate organization or person and the Coordinator will distribute to each.

The Coordinator will open the church 2 hours before the wedding, and will close the church 1 hour after the wedding. Removal of flowers, etc., is the responsibility of the wedding party.

It is advised that you designate someone to remove clothing, etc. from the dressing areas before or during the ceremony. The church is not responsible for damage or theft.
