Aging Gracefully is a program for Senior Citizens over 50 that is open to all of the La Vernia area community; regardless of your church affiliation. We meet weekly for fun, food, and fellowship.
In the past, we have played trivia, Wii, Blongo, Giant Jenga, Group Pictionary, Dice Bowling, and many other crazy games and activities.
A "free" hot lunch is served, but donations are gracefully accepted.
The last Wednesday of each month we go on a field trip - we have been to the Toyota plant, the Painted Churches, the llama farm, and a variety of restaurants from Mediterranean to Japanese.
Please come join us for fun and fellowship on any Wednesday at 10:30am.
For more information, call the church office at (830) 779-2621 ext. 3302, or [email protected].

An article by Loyce McCarter from the La Vernia Newspaper
There is a senior citizen program with lunch held every Wednesday in the La Vernia United Methodist Church Family Life Building. “Aging Gracefully” is an outreach to the community; a number of people that attend other churches come to this event. Wherever you go to church, you are welcome!
It begins at 10 a.m. with open activities and sometimes dancing or stretching class; people that don’t want to exercise begin to arrive at 10:30 or so for coffee. It is a time of visiting and enjoying each other and then about 11 a.m. a program begins. As an example of some of the events, it might be a card game, a craft, maybe play bowling “senior style,” or maybe animal trivia. Other activities could be playing Mexican Train, or a mystery activity. Sometimes the group is honored to hear “The Wranglers” or Carrol Samms & Friends and enjoy wonderful music. Gretch is so good at looking for fun events and games.
Before lunch there is a devotion and attendees are blessed by a message from our Lord and sharing of His love.
Lunch, which is served at noon, is an excellent meal for just a love offering. Chef Brian prepares wonderful meals as do our alternate Chefs, Doyle & MaryAnne and Robyn. Sometimes the meal is hamburgers with all the fixings, another time it is spaghetti and meatballs. Also served are meals of pork chops with all the trimmings and enjoyed with a salad and veggies. Everyone enjoys the time together and eating such good food.
The last Wednesday of the month there is a field trip. They have included a trip to Seguin and eating at the Grand Buffet and touring the pecan factory. Sometimes the field trip is a trip to play miniature golf, followed by pizza for lunch. Or maybe the trip is to brunch and a movie. All are very enjoyable and a time of great pleasure as the company is enjoyable and the activities are great!
Some of the comments of those that attend are:
“It is a pleasure to go to Aging Gracefully every week and see friends, gather hugs, and just enjoy a time of being with others that love our gracious Lord.”
“Attending Aging Gracefully is a great pleasure each week. It is so good to visit with others and to play the games, and the food is always delicious. Thanks, Brian.”
“One of the highlights of our week is going to Aging Gracefully. It is a wonderful time to get hugs from friends, to visit with them and to play a game, sometimes a silly game but so enjoyable. It is a time to hear a great devotion and then to enjoy lunch with all.”
If you live in the La Vernia area, you are invited. This is a ministry to all of the community, regardless of your church affiliation. Come and bring a friend, and enjoy a time of games, good food, and fellowship. It is also a time of reflection upon the Word of God through a devotion and prayer. See you there!
